It’s time for a new Question of the Month, one which will see us attempt to answer a quandary that has been puzzling the gaming community since they first missed the duck and cursed the dog. But first let’s find out who won January’s challenge!
Adventure Rules (@adventure_rules) January 05, 2018
Last month, Chris from OverThinker Y asked: which video game character is most likely to stick to their resolution, and what would it be? He reviewed all the answers submitted in response and the one he selected as his favourite was… wait for it… the Sheikah monks in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, by Ian from Adventure Rules!
Here’s Chris’s reasoning: “Everyone’s submissions were great, and I thought that all of them would be really likely to stick to their resolutions! But the Little Sitting Fellas have a pretty persuasive bit of evidence in that they’ve already been pulling off their mission for probably a thousand years straight without ever faltering. I can’t see these guys ever getting up for a coffee or to stretch their legs, so I think I’ve got to award them with the title of ‘most likely resolutioners’!”
Congratulations to Ian and thank you to everyone who joined in with January’s question. Now let’s find out more about our latest star blogger along with the challenge they’ve set us for February 2018.
When you hear Kevin’s accent you’ll immediately think ‘American’ but he’s actually from a place down south in the continent. He’s been blogging for around three years now (although he tells me it feels longer) over on The Mental Attic, a blog which originally started as somewhere for his fiction writing. Over time it has expanded to include reviews and other opinion pieces to give Kevin the space to share his views and interact with the gaming industry as independent press.

Speaking of video games, he says he’s played way too many to have a definitive favourites list but holds a fondness for the adventure genre in its various forms. However, don’t recommend a heavily choice-based title or ‘walking simulator’ to him; games in which you only witness scenes and get the occasional prompt for an action really aren’t his cup of tea. Kevin is a gamer who needs some meat in his gameplay to go along with those rich stories!
It therefore makes sense that his favourite post published on The Mental Attic is one entitled Point & Click Villainy – Are Adventure Protagonists really Heroes? This piece takes a look at heroes of the genre and their attitudes, and exposes how the ‘often gratuitously cruel nature of their actions towards others’ reveals them to be the real villains! Give Kevin a follow on his blog or on Twitter to for all the details on what he’s up to.
The question set for us by Kevin is another topical one, following on from Chris’s challenge in connection with New Year resolutions in January. Here’s what he’s asking: you ate everything during Christmas so now have to diet and work it all off; which video game character do you recruit as your personal trainer to get you back into shape?
If you’d like to get involved, publish your answer to Kevin’s question at a time that suits you before 23 February 2018 and leave us a link below. There are no rules on word-limit or format so you can be as creative as you like: write a post, record a video, create a drawing, or impress us with another unique idea.
Our star blogger will then choose their favourite entry and the winner will be announced at the beginning of March. Good luck to everyone who’d like to participate this month – we look forward to seeing your answers!
