Editorial: February 2018

Love is in the air

Welcome to the second editorial of 2018, where we’re starting to feel all loved-up in preparation for Valentine’s Day. Let’s take a look back at what happened in January as well as find out what’s coming up this month.

Personal backstory:

January is a weird month. One one hand it’s too far from Christmas to still feel festive; and on the other, it’s not yet far enough into the year to be looking ahead to sunnier days. On top of all that, it tends to be a very busy month for most people returning to their jobs after the holiday break. I’ve been working a lot of extra hours recently to stay on top of it all and as a result, I’m ridiculously behind on my blog reading. I really need to set some time aside in February to properly catch up.

Fortunately I’ve managed to fit in some time for video games. To The Moon and Finding Paradise have left me emotionally-exhausted and the next title I pick up will need to be something a little lighter. Saying that though, they’re both perfect in their own unique way and I’d highly recommend them; they certainly put your heart through the wringer but they also make you realise what’s important in life. Well done to Freebird Games on a great second episode – I can’t wait for the next.

The grind:

Finding Paradise, video game, box art, title, man, silhouette, paper plane     Grand Theft Auto, V, title, box art, video game     Monster Hunter: World, video game, box art, dragon, warrior, knight     Neon Drive, video game, box art, car, pyramid, 80s     The Elder Scrolls Online, video game, box art     To The Moon, video game, box art, man, woman, sky, sunset, rocket, silhouettes

The community:

Thank you so much to everyone who nominated Later Levels for an award in January! The posts published last month were inspired by and dedicated to you guys, and I’m truly grateful for all the support. I’m also grateful to Chris from OverThinker Y for being our first star blogger for the Question of the Month series; and to Kevin from The Mental Attic for taking a turn in February. Find out what challenge he’s posing to the community in this post.

Elsewhere in the community, Athena from AmbiGaming has begun her Year of the RPG! Later Levels will be getting involved by dedicating a section to the project during our GameBlast18 stream next month (more about that very soon). And Luna from GamersUnitedGG Blog has been running an awesome blogging competition to celebrate her site’s first anniversary. Who will win?

  • Following on from his post in January, I’ll be answering the question posed by Brandon from That Green Dude: do you miss cheat codes?
  • Some of our favourite bloggers will be sharing how they met their loved-ones and best friends through gaming, in honour of Valentine’s Day
  • There’ll be photo gallery from our time at the PC Gamer Weekender, and hopefully some new games to check out
  • Chris from OverThinker Y and I will be discussing To The Moon and Finding Paradise… and hopefully it won’t all end in tears
  • More details about our plans for GameBlast18 will be coming soon, including our stream schedule for 03-04 March 2018

  • Sending lots of hugs and kisses your way for a loved-up Valentine’s Day! – Kim   ❤
