Question of the Month: April 2018 edition
It’s time for a new Question of the Month, one which will see us attempt to answer a quandary that has been puzzling the gaming community since they first realised that Samus wasn’t a man. But first let’s find out who won March’s challenge!
The winner
Last month, Luke from Hundstrasse asked: I’d like to know what the best gaming crossover is, and most importantly why? He reviewed all the answers submitted in response and the one he selected as his favourite was… wait for it… by Em from Reviews by Quinn!
Here’s Luke’s reasoning: “All the entries have been so good! I’ve really enjoyed the different ways everyone has interpreted the idea of a cross-over, there are some classics in there and some rare gems. Ultimately it’s Crash Bandicoot in Uncharted 4 that takes the crown. The argument made by Em over at Reviews by Quinn really resonated with me; that idea that it’s not just a crossover, but also a device to bring the story together made it pretty special.” Congratulations to Em and thank you to everyone who joined in with March’s question. Now let’s find out more about our latest star blogger along with the challenge they’ve set us for April 2018.
The blogger
The story of how Nathan and I met is a meandering one. He moved to Shropshire from Los Angeles when he was 15 and it took four sets of introductions with various bloggers for us to end up in each other’s presence three years ago. I now have the pleasure of calling him a friend in real life and he’s one of the most caring and hilarious people I know; there aren’t many who send me photographs of cows at 05:00 in the morning (yes, this happens).
We managed to convince Nathan to start blogging after he started joining in with the Question of the Month series last year. Although he doesn’t write as often as he’d like to due to work commitments (although he promises he’s going to do more), you can find a mixture of video games and his personal life over on Hurricane thought process. Take a look at this post to find out more about him and his family.
Nathan’s favourite genre is action-adventure and I know he has a soft-spot for Nathan Drake; he has joined us for our GameBlast events since 2016 and the Uncharted series always features somewhere! He’s a fan of God of War too and Kratos has featured in several of his Question of the Month answers – in fact, this one is his favourite post on his blog so far.
The challenge
The question set for us by Nathan is: which three video game characters would you choose to help you survive the apocalypse? The type of apocalypse and enemy you’ll encounter will depend on your birthday…
Month | Disaster | Date | Enemy |
January | Nuclear winter | 01-03 | Sentient AI |
February | Asteroid | 04-06 | Mutants |
March | Flood | 07-09 | Raiders |
April | Ice age | 10-11 | Robots |
May | Volcano | 12-14 | Vampires |
June | Overpopulation | 15-16 | Zombies |
July | All-out war | 17-19 | Aliens |
August | Disease | 20-21 | Mother Nature |
September | The Rapture | 22-24 | Insects |
October | Solar flare | 25-26 | Graboids |
November | Plague | 27-29 | Plant-life |
December | Mass drought | 30-31 | Killer Tomatoes |
If you’d like to get involved, publish your answer to Nathan’s question at a time that suits you before 26 April 2018 and leave us a link below. There are no rules on word-limit or format so you can be as creative as you like: write a post, record a video, create a drawing, or impress us with another unique idea.
Our star blogger will then choose their favourite entry and the winner will be announced at the beginning of May. Good luck to everyone who’d like to participate this month – we look forward to seeing your answers!

It was a worthy mention indeed! Your answer was perfect – something everybody knows about, but not too obvious, and with a nice touch of feels. 🙂

A round of applause to Nathan for coming up with something completely different to any of the other questions we’ve had over the past year! I’ve got my first two characters, I just need to figure out the third… 🤔

This is a brilliant question. I’ve got to deal with a volcano and zombies. This is going to be fun!

I’ve got the zombies too… but I’m dealing with the opposite to a volcano: the Ice Age!

Such a creative answer, I loved it! When do we get the next instalment? 😉

Lol! Nathan said that too! I think if I’d finished it properly it might be a little too long! Maybe someone else will ask a qotm which I could answer to naturally finish the story! After all I need to make sure all the other blogging troops are ok 😀

Ooh I like that – a follow-up QotM answer! I look forward to it!!

This is one of the coolest QOTM ideas – no surprise, given the mind it’s come from!
So I now need to survive… a nuclear winter, encountering Mother Nature. Hmmmm. I’ll have a think…

Hearing the combinations that everyone has ended up with is interesting; some of them sound really difficult, so I’m kind of glad I ended up with zombies and an Ice Age! Still need to finalise my team though…

This is a very innovative question and I’m happy to participate this month! My post will go live in a few minutes so I will post the link when it is active. Good luck everyone and great question Nathan! Additionally, the deadline of this month’s question is my actual birthday 😀

Hm, ice age AND plant life? That would take some imagination. It would have to be either some kind of plant that mutated to be able to survive the cold, or I’m fighting pine trees 🙂

Oh wow… you really got a tough selection! I’ve heard those pine trees can be pretty deadly…

You have to watch out for those soldier and sentinel pines!
