Question of the Month: May 2018 edition
It’s time for a new Question of the Month, one which will see us attempt to answer a quandary that has been puzzling the gaming community since they first yelled at Navi to shut-the-hell-up. But first let’s find out who won April’s challenge!
The winner
Last month, Nathan from Hurricane thought process asked: which three video game characters would you choose to help you survive an apocalypse, tailored to you using your birthday? He reviewed all the answers submitted in response and here’s his judgement:
“First place goes to Alex from The Daily Rager, because his answer was brilliantly funny and had a great use of characters. In second place is Chris from OverThinker Y, because I loved the style of his poem and a bit of Edgar Allan Poe suited the situation well. And in third place is Ian from Adventure Rules, as his short story really engrossed me and I wanted to know more. But the answers from all of the entrants were awesome and I look forward to reading more of their stuff!”
Congratulations to Alex and thank you to everyone who joined in with April’s question. Now let’s find out more about our latest star blogger along with the challenge they’ve set us for May 2018.
The blogger
Pix1001 is fairly new on the WordPress scene, having founded Shoot the Rookie in August 2017, but in that short space of time she’s made quite an impact. I’d be very surprised if you haven’t come across her already or had a conversation with this lovely lady on Twitter; she has a sunny personality, loves a good JRPG and is always up for a chat in the comments of a blog post.
Originally from a place near Stoke-on-Trent and now in Glasgow, Pix’s original idea for her site was to talk about difficulty in gaming as she has always found controllers difficult to get to grips with. She likes to examine how titles seek (or don’t seek) to be accessible to a wide range of skill levels; and she also has a passion for fashion, as shown in her gamers’ guide to goggles last year.
The fashion theme continued recently with High Score Haute Couture: The Gaming Catwalk 2018, a collaborative effort with Chris from OverThinker Y (who coincidentally set January’s QotM) featuring characters who are dressed to impress. Pix says her favourite titles include Resident Evil 4, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Final Fantasy IX and the Xenoblade Chronicles games, so keep an eye out for her and where her varied tastes take her next.
The challenge
The question set for us by Pix1001 is: if you could live in any video game settlement (ie a town, village, city, etc), where would you choose to live and why; and what role would you play in it?
If you’d like to get involved, publish your answer to Pix’s question at a time that suits you before 26 May 2018 and leave us a link below. There are no rules on word-limit or format so you can be as creative as you like: write a post, record a video, create a drawing, or impress us with another unique idea.
Our star blogger will then choose their favourite entry and the winner will be announced at the beginning of June. Good luck to everyone who’d like to participate this month – we look forward to seeing your answers!

There’s one I’ve got in mind, but I’m not sure it’s strictly in-keeping with the ‘settlement’ theme… I need to consider this further! 🤔

Definitely use the ‘etc’ in the question to it’s widest possible limit!

Definitely a lot of options! I’ll have to take some time to mull this one over.

I’ve narrowed it down to two options… and I think I know which one I’m going to go for… 🤔
Welcome to the QotM crew!

An answer! (As usual, what would have probably been my first choice got sniped; I was thinking hopping in a Gummi ship might be fun!)

Not that I’m allowed to show bias in any way… but that has to be one of the best ever QotM answers ever. Fact.

Thanks! 🤔… I’m not entirely sure that I answered the question… But did have lots of fun writing it!

So, before even reading your submission, I had also included Hyrule and Rapture in my topics. Too late to change it now! (They’re not what I chose though, so, dodged an awkward bullet there!)

I finally answered one of the Questions of the month!!! https://thedragonsteaparty.wordpress.com/2018/05/22/later-levels-question-of-the-month-may-2018-the-pokemon-rescue-centre/
It’s a bit sickly sweet but I got really into the idea.

Aw that’s such a lovely answer! And the story about Maple… the question clearly brought out your caring side. 😀

To be honest I would love to work for an animal shelter IRL (or have my own) and once I have a garden I’m going to adopt animals that are struggling to be rehomed. My family have always been very supportive of animal rescues so I guess it came out a lot in this post!

I’ve managed to convince the other-half that if we win the lottery, we’ll open a cat sanctuary. Video games and cats – what more does a girl need?

Welcome aboard! 😀
Ooh good choice there… didn’t see that one coming and I doubt it’s an answer anyone would predict! Plus I really like the way you explained why you wouldn’t go for any of the easy answers (I completely agree that the ocean is way too deep).

Now this should be interesting, thought I wanted to do a very simple one this time around. But man is it tough competition from others…I love it!
