Editorial: May 2018
Video games galore
Welcome to May’s editorial for 2018, where we’re finally starting to recover after our GameBlast18 stream and trip to this year’s Rezzed expo. Let’s take a look back at what happened in April as well as find out what’s coming up this month.

Personal backstory:April was a busy month full of birthdays, charity events, expos and plenty of gaming! One of the highlights was attending 2018’s Rezzed where we had the pleasure of meeting the awesome Luke from Hundstrasse in person and sneaking him into a developer session with Tim Schaefer. There seemed to be many narrative detective games on display this year, and my game of the show had to be Disco Elysium. Check this one out if you like narrative-heavy RPGs. My last post of the month was about how hiding in The Elder Scrolls Online had helped me to deal with the death of my gran-in-law, one of the most stubborn and humorous ladies I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. My other-half and I are now planning a garden-makeover with a section full of daffodils dedicated to her; so after getting through our house renovations last year, we’ll soon be back to being covered in dust and mud. |

The community:The start of April saw myself, Pete, Ben and Nathan playing video games continuously for 24-hours with the aim of raising as much money and awareness as possible for the amazing charity that is SpecialEffect. A huge thank you to everyone who gave us their support and donated towards the cause: with your help, we managed to reach a grand total of £552.35 – 38% more than our target! Take a look at our lessons learnt post to find out how the stream went, and get in touch if you’re interested in joining in with us next year. If The Legend of Zelda or Tomb Raider series rate highly in your list of favourite games, you might want to check out a couple of collaboration projects taking place in the near future. First up we have Hyrule: See the Sights, Hear the Sounds! by Matt from Normal Happenings closely followed by something from NekoJonez at NekoJonez’s Gaming Blog. I’d better get playing the titles I’m writing about so I can get my sections sorted! |

I am sooo excited about the Hyrule collaboration. I’m in the design process now, and I think it’s going to do justice to everyone’s amazing writing. Thank you so much Kim for helping make this happen. 🙂
