Editorial: June 2018
Summer is finally here!
Welcome to June’s editorial for 2018, where we’re now starting to see some sunny days here in the UK (and making the most of the cloudy days where there’s no glare on the TV screen). Let’s take a look back at what happened in May as well as find out what’s coming up this month.

Personal backstory:May was a busy month in terms of blogging and I managed to publish a few more posts than I usually do. There were five articles instead of three for several weeks in a row in an attempt to catch up on subjects I’d like to write about and award responses. It’s not something I’m planning on continuing long-term although there’ll likely be a few additional posts throughout June too; it’s important to make time for playing video games as well as writing about them! An audit at work has keep me tied up recently but I’ve been trying to broaden my horizons when I do have an opportunity for gaming. Midnight Hub kindly sent me a key for Lake Ridden, an atmospheric adventure displayed at EGX in September and which turned out to be worth the wait. I recently started playing – and much to my surprise, enjoying – a team-based online title so I’ll be writing about that soon. And we also found time to fit in an afternoon at Comic Con at the end of the month. |

The grind:Here are the games I played last month. Perhaps I’m finally over my The Elder Scrolls Online addiction! |

The community:Get excited: further details on this year’s Blogger Blitz have now been revealed by Ian from Adventure Rules, and he’s looking for your help when it comes to deciding on the challenges the next batch of contenders will face. Take a look at this post for more details on how you can vote and get involved. I can highly recommend it; I took part in the event last year and may not have made it through the first round, but ended up writing something completely different I was pretty proud of! The glamourous Chris from OverThinker Y and Pix1001 from Shoot the Rookie have been showing off their fashionable sides recently with their High Score Haute Couture collaboration, having several other awesome bloggers judge the catwalk competition. And speaking of Chris, did you know that he has now achieved magical Mage status? Head over to The Well-Red Mage to read his first review and find out his thoughts on Overcooked. |

Thanks for the shout-out! Looking forward to having you in this year’s competition as well.
I’m interested to see the final results of the retro vs classic vote – particularly the correlation between age and perception of retro/classic. Definitely a cool concept to write about!

There were 40 responses to the survey so hopefully we’ll get some good data out of it! I need to set some time aside to immerse myself in numbers and graphs. 😉

Yeah, it should be interesting – I haven’t yet had a chance to take a look at the data gathered during the survey but hopefully it will reveal some trends. Thanks for being the inspiration for that one! 🙂

I’ll never forget the awesome sea shanty you wrote for Blogger Blitz last year!! That “Claire fights like a cow” line is still hilarious to me 😂

Wow! Did you really write an article about Fortnite being too addictive and the downfall of our children Hahahaha!!!! It’s not addictive, people just like to play it. And the game is Free, are you serious? Why are we complaining about a free game? If you believe its the down fall of your child because he or she can’t focus on their studies then please take the game away until they learn self control but the game itself is not addictive nor leading to the “downfall of children”

Did you read the post? It was about an ITV News report that claimed Fortnite was turning all our children into addicts… which I scoffed at. 😉
It’s all about parents making informed decisions, and not leaving those decisions entirely up to their children. Responsibility for parenting can never be devolved to a video game itself and that’s why the news report was, quite simply, a load of rubbish!
