GameBlast20 50-day challenge: August 2019 update

Here’s the latest update on our 50-day challenge for GameBlast20, an event starting on Sunday, 05 January 2020 which aims to raise funds and awareness for SpecialEffect. This amazing charity puts fun and inclusion back into the lives of those with physical disabilities by helping everyone play video games. Find out more on their website or take a look at these posts.

Since our announcement for GameBlast20 last month, just how much a challenge playing video games for at least an hour for 50-days straight has really sunk in. At first it doesn’t seem like too much of a test but when you start to consider upcoming family and work commitments, you can see how many adult responsibilities are likely to cause obstacles. Add in a 24-hour marathon stream to finish of the period with a bang and there’s plenty of scope for things to go wrong.

But that’s not going to deter us though. We’ve participated in all kinds of events for SpecialEffect and want this latest one to be our biggest challenge yet. The experience we’ve gained from participating in previous GameBlasts will be invaluable when it comes to preparing for some of the risks that may come up. We’ve learnt in the past that it’s difficult to go alone so we’re asking you, dear readers: would you be prepared to help us in the following ways?

💜    Dream-stream-team members We’d love to involve as many bloggers as possible during the our 50-day challenge to keep things interesting, promote all those amazing blogs out there and spread the word about SpecialEffect’s work. Would you like to join us for a few rounds of a particular game during January or February? Or hold your own stream on the Later Levels’ Twitch channel?
💜    We’ve-got-your-back people We’re fully prepared to take on a stream every day during the challenge, but unexpected things can happen and there’s always a chance we’ll be called away in an emergency. Would you interested in being part of a small group of superheroes who we could call on at short notice to cover for a stream when absolutely necessary? You can even wear a cape, if you’d like.
💜    Shout-it-from-the-rooftops promoters There’s no point in doing all this work if nobody is going to hear about it and we don’t raise awareness for SpecialEffect. We want as many people as possible to hear about their amazing work to help everyone play video games. Would you be willing to help us promote the charity and GameBlast20 on social media, Twitch chat and through press emails?

If you’d be happy to help us with any of the tasks above, please do get in touch with us as soon as possible and share your ideas. We’ll then get everyone who’s interested in joining in together for a chat over the following month to start planning. Unfortunately we can’t offer you loads of cash for your time… but we can give you our eternal gratitude, promotion for your blog and that warm, fuzzy feeling inside that comes from knowing you’re doing something amazing.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read this! There’ll be more news about GameBlast20 and the our 50-day challenge coming in early September. In the meantime, you can find out more about SpecialEffect and their work by visiting their website and giving them a follow on Twitter.

  1. I’d be up for shouting from the rooftops and promoting streams, GameBlast and Special Effect. I would say stream but I haven’t done that before and who knows what my shifts would be and if any would allow for this. But promoting I can get behind and do!
