#LoveYourBacklog 2024: a month dedicated to your backlog

Backlog: a word that evokes a sense of apprehension for most gamers.

The unease we experience when looking at our stack of untouched titles is a feeling that will be familiar to many. However, the temptation of continually expanding our ever-growing video game libraries is strong, even though we know that we’re likely to never complete every entry on the list.

Does it have to be this way though? What if, instead of a source of guilt, our libraries became a cause for celebration? A mountain of games shouldn’t be a reason for shame, but a reflection of our enthusiasm for our hobby and the diversity of experiences available. That’s why I’m once again running the #LoveYourBacklog event during February, and giving everyone a chance to express their affection for their backlogs.

Want to take part? Join in with one or more of the activities below!

Backlogged and proud of it

Demonstrate your backlog pride by selecting one of the badges below to represent the size of your library, and showcase it on your blog throughout the month of February. If you’re open to others exploring your games list and engaging in a chat about gaming recommendations, feel free to include a link to your digital library alongside the image so we can check out your collection.

#LoveYourBacklog

Do what bloggers do best

Express your love for your backlog by writing a post about your game collection and sharing it on your blog before the end of February. Nominate unplayed or finished titles from your entire digital and physical for the following six questions:

  • A game you bought on release but haven’t yet started
  • An unplayed game with an intriguing storyline or mechanic
  • A game you haven’t played yet due to its intimidating difficulty
  • The game most likely to never be played
  • The most recent addition to your library
  • The game which has spent the most time on your backlog

Participate in #MaybeInMarch

The backlog appreciation doesn’t end at the end of February, because there’s even more in store for the upcoming month. Remember the game you nominated for the ‘most time on your backlog’ category earlier? How about taking on the challenge of completing it during March and then sharing your experience with the blogging community? This endeavour isn’t solely about checking a title off the list, but more a celebration of the amazing releases that contribute to our backlogs. Stay tuned for additional details coming soon.

  1. I was surprisingly efficient with my backlog in January. I completed God of War Ragnarok and Final Fantasy VII Remake, but unlikely to replicate that achievement in February!

    • Blimey, well done… that was a huge undertaking. I haven’t played any big games like that for a few years now because I just don’t seem to have the patience to see them through any longer!

      • I started God of War of Xmas and was halfway through FF7 from about a year ago so technically didn’t start and finish them in January. You’re right about the length though, I’ve got a post queued up about it. There’s a point in both games where it’s just…no. I just want to finish this now, just give me the rest of the story. I don’t want 15 hours of extra side quests. It really detracts from the experience in my opinion.

  2. Woo thanks for running this again! I look forward to making my post 😀 It’s always a good way to motivate me to clear some of my backlog

  3. Is there a badge for like ten games in my backlog? 😂 I thought my backlog was extreme but then I started learning about this event and the number of games that people actually own. I guess I should be proud that this number is so low! 🥰
